Abolishing racism requires more than book clubs and dialogues. While those things matter, we must remember that the persistence of racism relies on institutional power as well. Resultantly, the Truth and Conciliation Commission is committed to dismantling institutional barriers to racial equity and justice. As it relates to our Democracy, the filibuster functions as such a barrier.
What is the filibuster? Download, read and share the recent brief from Just Democracy, Demos and the Truth and Conciliation Commission that explains the filibuster and its rootedness in racism. If we are to ever legally level the playing field for BIPOC people in the U.S., then we can no longer afford to allow such hindrances to Democracy to continue.
